A school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday left at least three people dead and six others injured. Authorities confirmed that the suspected shooter, a student at the school, was among those killed.
According to Fox 9, police responded to reports of an active shooting at approximately 10:57 a.m. on Monday. Madison Police Chief Shon F. Barnes stated during a press briefing at 12:15 p.m. that at least seven individuals were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from “minor to life-threatening.” Barnes described the day as tragic, adding, “This is something you prepare for, but that you hope you never have to do.”
Initial reports indicated that five people were killed, including the suspected shooter, but officials later confirmed three fatalities and six injuries. Police said officers discovered the suspected shooter deceased inside the school building and clarified that no officers fired their weapons during the incident. The shooting remains under investigation.
Chief Barnes addressed the emotional toll on the school community, stating, “Every child, every person in that building is a victim and will be a victim forever.”
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers released a statement on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “I am closely monitoring the incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond.”
In a post on Facebook, Abundant Life Christian School requested prayers for its community, writing, “Prayers Requested! Today, we had an active shooter incident at ALCS. We are in the midst of following up. We will share information as we are able. Please pray for our Challenger Family.”
Authorities continue to investigate the incident while the community grapples with the aftermath of the tragedy.
